Peterhead is a very charming, local feeling golf club. I played with a group of friends who do an annual trip together and many of the members kept asking us where we were from and why we were visiting. I guess they don’t get too many tourists.

The course has an interesting mix of holes and changes in elevation. The 1st is no mean feat with a large river running down the left-hand side and a wickedly sloping fairway from the right which fed down towards the river.

The next few holes were relatively straight forward but then you start to get towards a stretch of more intriguing, traditional links style golf with undulating fairways and dunes either side of fairways. There is great scenery on offer, try and get yourself up to one of the dunes which overlooks the beach.

If you try play attacking golf, you can get punished with thick rough but sensible iron shots and you’ll be just fine. The course doesn’t play too long off the yellow tees at roughly 5,600 meters. Saying that the course is right next to the course and whilst we were lucky with a relatively calm day the wind can blow hard in these parts.

Sadly there is no driving range, there is a net however and a good sized putting green. Overall, a very pleasant round of golf and the members were very friendly and hospitable
