Never would I have thought I would be playing golf in Luxembourg nor at such a high quality and picturesque course. Admittedly I’d never been through the country before but was very pleasantly surprised with Golf de Luxembourg as a course.
The drive towards the clubhouse is very pretty, slowly working your way through the tree lined avenue to a very pretty old but modern building housing the reception and a beautiful looking restaurant. I’ll never forget the manager murmuring the words ‘do you want a buggy’ as I nonchalantly walked towards the first tee. And the answer to that question at this course should always, categorically be yes. I was exhausted after a sun soaked, 18 holes in the midday heat.
The first is a relatively gentle start but a lovely hole nonetheless, it is a dog-leg right, down hill shot where a well placed drive could get you very near the green as the dog leg is a huge slope running down towards it. You then cross under the road and play a string of holes lower down in the valley, all unique, all changing in elevation and with one of the defining features of the course, all with immaculate, spongy fairways. Some of the best I’ve ever played on and so well cut that they’re a beauty to behold.
I could bore you with every hole but they’re all unique, almost nothing dead straight and probably the only hole that is (apart from the par 3’s) is a par 4 with a blind tee shot to a tricky green.
The practice facilities are great, there’s a big driving range, there’s chipping and pitching areas as well as a nice putting green. I think €90 for a round here is a fair price and if you’re ever going through the area and want to break up your journey or even visiting Luxembourg I’d certainly recommend adding this to your list.
