Castlerock is a very good course and a solid challenge. At just under 6,000 metres off the ‘men’s’ tees, and I mean 2nd from back tees it is on the longer side of courses I’ve played. The fairways were generally on the narrower side so it makes it a pretty tough test and the rough we thought was extremely long, especially compared to the other courses we played throughout the week. I spent many a minute in the long rough and it is a gold mine for finding Pro V1's.
Sadly for what we paid (£135) we didn’t feel like it was quite worth the money, given the quality of the fairways wasn’t as good as Portrush Valley course we’d played the day before for a fraction of the price. There was also no driving range and limited selection in the pro shop. On the plus side, go digging in the rough and you’re guaranteed to fill your bag with some very nice balls!
It is a really good course but we felt a bit underwhelmed by the price (£135) of it given the quality wasn’t as good as some of the courses nearby, the rough was incredibly thick and the practice facilities were quite limited.
