Beeston Fields is a really nice course, local to Nottingham. I hadn’t heard much about it before but ranked well in Nottinghamshire and it was a very interesting round. It starts off quite gently with a downhill par 4 which for the longer hitters is probably drivable but to the rest of is a long iron and a wedge.

There’s plenty of intriguing holes including a blind tee shot on the 4th and an almost blind approach on the par 3 8th to an elevated green. 9 is a very elevated tee down to a narrow fairway where a precise drive is required.

It’s definitely not an easy course to play despite being predominantly park land, there are patches of thick rough and plenty of trees to get stuck behind. Most of the greens slope back to front, I kept finding myself hitting past the pin and having devilish downhill putts. The greens weren’t rapid but pretty quick and easy to race your ball past the hole.

I think there were only two downsides, one was the lack of driving range with balls provided, I think there was a place to hit but you had to bring your own balls and it looked relatively overgrown. There is a net though and a fairly large putting green. The second downside, and not had this in over 200 rounds of golf was an obnoxious member who at the time was two holes behind us but demanded to be let through when he caught us (eventually 4 or 5 holes later) and proceeded to hit balls over myself and my dad who I was playing with at the time. Don’t need people like that on the course.
