Thoroughly enjoyable day at Kempense despite inclement weather the night before and morning of our round. The communication was great, we had a message the morning of our round to let us know of significant rain and that the course wasn’t in the best condition. We continued nonetheless.
It is a really nice course and was still in pretty good condition all things considered. The greens had dried out rapidly and ran okay. The fairways were well maintained and only had the odd spots where the rain had settled but drainage overall was really good.
In terms of the course itself it was in a very nice quiet, tranquil environment. The 1st hole has a body of water before the fairway which any decent golfer should be able to get over, I of course hit my tee shot into the water after watching people do it all day. Holes 4 and 5 are a couple of short, driveable par 4’s which are always good to have a crack at. The 8th hole is a 140 meter par 3 on an island green which my group all managed to miss and hole 9 was a very nice par 5 with long tree lines either side.
The back 9 has two very dramatic par 4’s which are quite short in theory but tricky with club selection to then be able to attack the green. The 18th was a really interesting green to play to, it’s a par 5 where you almost have no option but to play 3 to the green because it is a short dogleg right to the green and you have a small passage to play through between tall trees.
Overall, a really nice place to play golf but maybe lacking a real signature hole and we were surprised how flat it was. I think good value for money and they were very generous with the wet conditions to give us a €10 discount which was a great touch. The clubhouse was very nice and modern, the practice facilities are good and the pro shop was very well stocked as well.
