With a quick trip planned to Breda one Saturday morning and having called a bunch of courses in the area the day before looking for a tee time I had virtually given up hope. Then I stumbled across the Oosterhoutse Golf Club. Pretty well rated on Leading Courses and with plenty of tee times available I thought I’d give it a shot and very pleased I did so.

Just to the north-east of the city and tucked behind a bunch of rather large industrial buildings, the club has one of the more peculiar entrances I have come across. Past the parking lot you have the driving range to your left and a modest clubhouse that overlooks the greens of 9 and 18 as well as the 10th tee. Not your typical glamorous golf location but the land the course sits upon is very charming. De Oosterhoutse is a parkland, heathland style course with a bit of a wasteland feel to it, sandy under the surface. It is in a similar vein to De Pan up near Utrecht but of course not quite to the same standard of design.

The course is relatively flat apart from a couple of holes that utilise raised greens or the par 3, 15th hole which hits across a small lake with a steep drop off below the green back towards the water. There is nothing drastic to the course, just subtle twists and turns to the fairways and gentle undulations if any.

Playing in the summer months the fairways were quite dry but still well presented but the greens were lovely and soft yet still firm for rolling puts.

A good course for anyone looking for a pleasant, quick round of golf with very friendly members. Playing as a solo I was let through by about 4 groups so kudos to the club for being very welcoming! €79 for a round is reasonable.
