Golf Du Luberon is a very tactical golf course, a course where you’ll probably only use your driver on a handful of holes and it’s not really needed at all to be honest. At a touch over 5,200 meters off the traditional men’s tees it is not very long but it is a hilly course. Luckily my father and I had opted for a buggy but a walk around Golf Du Luberon would be a pretty tough challenge.
The course starts off with a gentle downhill par 5 where 3 sensible iron shots put you in good stead, followed by 2 holes that one go up a slight ascent to a green protected by tall trees before coming down back on yourself and then weaving through the hills of Luberon. The course in general has many memorable holes, very pretty vistas of the surrounding hills and plenty of tee shots over gorges. There’s one par 4 in particular which was a 90 degree dog leg with trees protecting the near side of the fairway and a gorge short of the trees giving you the option of laying up left or taking the big stick out and whacking it over the trees.
In general it was a fun round of golf but the general maintenance of the course wasn’t very good. Near the start of the round some of the fairways were very brown and dry and the tee boxes should be kept in better condition. I would say the greens were very good though so credit where it is due.
We were slightly disappointed there was no locker room, a round in these parts leaves you quite sweaty afterwards and so a shower before our next endeavours would’ve been nice.
The clubhouse however is very beautiful with a lovely veranda overlooking the 9th and 18th greens, a great spot for a drink and a bite to eat.
The practice facilities are good as well, there’s a driving range, a pitching area, a chipping area and a decent size putting green. I will say the members had terrible etiquette, there was a lot of loud talking from surrounding holes when playing shots (a lot of holes neighbour each other) and several times I was playing a shot as a buggy drove past which didn’t bother to stop.
At €75 I don’t think the quality of the course justifies the money especially as you’ll probably want to add a buggy onto that but if cash isn’t a problem for you it’s definitely an interesting course to play at.
