Staying in Cala D’Or it would’ve been rude not to pay a visit to Vall D’Or, a 20 minute drive inland. Set up on the hill, the course has stunning views of the surrounding areas down to Portocolom in the near distance.
Arriving for the first tee time with the sun still yet to come up we didn’t leave ourselves enough time to use the driving range but instead headed off to the first tee. A quirky start! An uphill, 140 meter par 3 to get you loosened up and headed towards the higher part of the course and some stunning holes.
The front 9 is awesome, weaving through thickets of pine & almond trees over hugely undulating fairways. Straight after the first hole, you’re hit with 310 meter par 4 which doesn’t seem long but it narrow and straight up the hill to a narrow, raised green. Having played Alcanada the day before, these greens were a stark contrast in how much smaller and harder to hit they were. The 3rd hole has the best view on the course. An elevated tee that gives you views all the way down to the waters of Portocolom.
The back 9 is on the lower part of the course and has more of a traditional parkland feel to it with a bit more margin for error. The 13th is a really fun hole, a par 5 at no more than 450 meters with an elevated tee down to the fairway, you’re then left with a completely blind approach over the hill to the green if you choose to go for it. I feel they would benefit from switching the 9’s and finishing with what is currently the front 9.
After finishing the round we had a quick beer at the clubhouse to soak in those views once more before heading off. For €100 a round this is definitely worth it for a great round whilst on holiday!
