About 45 minutes drive from Amsterdam, up north of Alkmaar is Dirkshorn Golf Club. The course is set on the flatter lands of the northern part of the Netherlands, an area known for its abundance of water and susceptibility to high winds.
The course is a links style course with twisting, undulating fairways with the Dutch touch of streams and water hazards throughout. It is quite a challenge and requires a fair amount of accuracy especially when the winds pick up.
For an area that I don't think is the most interesting in terms of scenery they do a good job of making it look good and appealing on the eye. The course is usually in pretty good condition and has a lovely finishing hole with the par 5 18th having the stunning clubhouse in close proximity over the back of the green.
The club has good facilities and the pace of play is always pretty quick. I've played her a few times and never had many hold ups.
